The concepts and original wording for the Principles came through the mediumship of Emma Hardinge Britten who was a Spiritualist medium and great speaker on Spiritualism’s philosopy.
Spiritualist not only say that they believe that there is an intelligence which is greater then the human mind can conceive, but they go further and say that they know that there is an infinite force working in this vast universe, of which we are all a part of.
To many people the word spiritualism brings thoughts of fortune-telling. They think of a medium as a person located in some unpretentious place, engaged in Crystal gazing or carding reading. This is not spiritualism. Palmistry, astrology, and neurology are not spiritualism; They are distinct sciences apart from ours. These things have attached themselves to spiritualism.
As a religious movement, or minister stand in the same position as those of any other denomination. We are according to the same privileges. Our marriage ceremonies are legal. Or standing is just as high as that of any other denomination in the land.
Spiritualism is a religion of happiness. We believe in so living that we can manifest happiness. We attract to ourselves just what is within us. We make our happiness or unhappiness here and now.
Heaven is not gained by a single bound. Life is the ladder by which we climb, and experiences are the rungs upon which we ascend. There is no death; life is everywhere. Death, so called, is a manifestation of life. Man is not a sinful creature; he does not need vicarious atonement. All he needs is to unfold himself, to learn how to use the faculties God has given him. When we have finished our experience here, This physical body cast aside, and we are released become a spiritual being in the unseen world.
When you understand life, death becomes the sweetest boon that God has given us. Just a wave of the hand, a sigh, a little silence, and we find ourselves in a new life. Let us realize that we were living now in God’s ever present eternity. Death is just one of the manifestations of God, as is birth. One is as natural as the other and as necessary in our growth and we are all making our own way towards perfection according to the light we have.
We sit in circles with love in our hearts. To commune with those who have passed beyond. True spiritualist do not go into the circle asking for the little things in life; they enter them with the hope and prayer that a message may come across from the loved ones on the other side of life, telling that they live and move and have their being.
